my new blog!

well…

the economy has finally hit us–and hard! doug’s business is barely crawling along. we were very blessed last year to still have lots of work when others were feeling the pinch. now it’s our turn, i guess. so, in an effort to start my own business, or to at least generate some cash flow for my family i started a new blog.

you can find it here: www.kellysfavoritebooks.blogspot.com

my new blog is dedicated to encouraging parents to read to their children. it will always have book recommendations for every age. i have links to amazon so you can easily purchase any of my recommendations. that’s how i’ll generate cash, so click and purchase! amazon almost always has the best prices on books. you can even find some from independent sellers that cost a lot less in the amazon marketplace.

so, check it out and let me know what you think. offer suggestions of your favorite books or of things you’d like to see on the site. stop by often. i’ll update frequently with new recommendations.

my new favorite book

i just read “the secret life of bees”, and it is wonderful! i felt like i’d had a visit with an old friend. it took me back to my southern roots, a place i haven’t been to for a long time. i loved the journey and i want to go back sometime and take that journey again. i will definitely read this book many times.

all-time favorite books

A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle (childhood favorite)

The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas

Persuasion by Jane Austen

i wasn’t much of a reader until i became a grown-up. actually i started reading a lot more at about the age of 30. i saw the movie “Sense and Sensibility” and absolutely fell in love with it. then i bought the book and loved it even more. then i continued to read jane austen novels and “Persuasion” became my favorite of hers. as a kid, i read a few books and luckily i stumbled upon “A Wrinkle in Time” at the public library.  i felt like i’d found a best friend. i have read it many times and at least once to each of my boys. “The Count of Monte Cristo” was another one i got interested in after seeing the movie. i saw the first 2 hours on tv (the one with gerard depardieu) and missed the rest, so i bought the book. i started with the abridged version and then the complete version. don’t bother with the abridged. the whole story is so much better. i loved how edmond got his revenge. he never hurt anyone physically. he took away the things that meant the most to them. amazing story.

so, there you go. i’ll figure out how to make a list of other books i’ve read and enjoyed and i’ll post that later.
